Texas Pete Goes Vertical with Award-Winning BMX Athlete Chad Kagy

“Comeback Kid” signs partnership with Texas Pete® Hot Sauce Winston-Salem, NC — June 28, 2012 – Championship BMX athlete Chad Kagy will have a new partner on his side when he makes his triumphant return to Summer X Games Los Angeles, this Thursday through Sunday. Kagy, one the world’s best BMX Vert and BMX Big Air competitors, has inked a sponsorship agreement with Texas Pete® to endorse the hot sauce around the world in 2012.

Kagy, coming off of a devastating crash which led to a broken femur during last year’s X Games 17, is poised to return to the form that has seen him earn multiple X Games medals. No stranger to overcoming injuries, Chad earned himself the nickname “The Comeback Kid” following his fourth place finish at the 2004 X Games, only nine months after breaking his neck. 2005 saw Kagy leave his injuries behind as he proved that his comeback was complete en route to a third place finish in the year-end Dew Cup standings and a silver medal at the X Games. In 2006, he further improved as he placed second at the AST Dew Tour and earned X Games gold. Despite his stellar showing in 2006, Kagy would again be dealt another injury as a very promising start to the 2007 season was cut short after being sidelined with a collarbone injury. The consummate competitor, Kagy again rebounded with a pair of second-place finishes on the Dew Tour in 2008 and 2009.

The past two seasons saw Kagy continue his ascent to the top of the BMX world as he earned an X Games gold medal and his third consecutive second-place finish on the Dew Tour in 2010 and followed it up with a bronze medal in Big Air at X Games 17 and a second-place finish at the first Dew Tour stop of the season before the flair whip that went awry, resulting in the broken femur that cut his season short.

The signing of Kagy marks Texas Pete’s continued support of action sports and events such as X Games. Texas Pete® is also the proud sponsor of championship snowboarder Chas Guldemond. “We are proud to support a competitor as driven as Chad Kagy,” said Glenn Garner, director of marketing for TW Garner Food Company, the makers of Texas Pete® Hot Sauce. “Chad has shown the grit and determination that make him one of the world’s best BMX riders and we are excited that he will help to represent Texas Pete® throughout the year. We will be following his comeback from last year’s setback and we are confident he will once again return to the top of his sport.”
